WBCSD Recommendations on the CBD Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework’s Draft 1

Published: 19 Aug 2021

WBCSD welcomes the first draft of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, but is still concerned about several points that can be further strengthened. In particular, we would like to stress four overarching points that need addressing:

  1. Set a global mission for nature that will drive business action
  2. Design SMART Targets, actionable by business, that address nature loss drivers
  3. Value and embed nature into all decision-making
  4. Encourage and support fair, equitable, simple and an innovation friendly Access and Benefits Sharing mechanism

WBCSD fully supports Business for Nature’s position paper which was published in reaction of CBD Draft 1, but would like to share a few additional text amendment suggestions on the following targets:

  • Target 7 on pollution
  • Target 15 on mainstreaming the value of nature for business
