Gurgaon, India 2 June 2017: 60 participants from the renewables value chain came together to share approaches to buying renewable energy in the Indian market.
Developers, buyers, legal firms and financiers met for the first workshop of the Corporate Renewable PPA Forum, India deep dive. An overview of types of power purchase agreements (PPAs) was provided by Ernst & Young. Examples of corporate renewable PPAs were shared by Idea Cellular and Lafarge Holcim. An overview of the policy landscape for corporate PPAs, at state and national level, was given by IFC and Bridge to India.
The workshop was hosted by Vedanta and Cairn Oil & Gas. The India deep dive consists of 22 member companies, who together are raising awareness, building shared knowledge, and engaging in dialogue with policy makers to support more take up of renewable energy procurement by the private sector.
India has a target of 175 GW of installed renewable energy by 2022. To stimulate the uptake of PPAs, the forum focuses on influencing state-level and central government policies and raising awareness of the opportunities and benefits of Corporate Renewable PPAs. The outcomes will be summarized in a short PPA report for India including some case studies.
