Santiago, Chile, 6 May 2019: Acción Empresas, WBCSD’s Global Network partner in Chile, has issued a study on business and human rights in collaboration with the Confederation of Production and Trade (CPC), UN Global Compact Chile, the International Labor Organization (ILO), and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso.
The Guide, titled Business and Human Rights: Our Commitment, underscores the importance of operationalizing the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and of aligning with Chile’s National Action Plan on this topic. It recommends due diligence steps within companies in view of identifying the key negative impacts on people and therefore prevent, mitigate, and respond to them.
A letter co-signed by Alfonso Swett, President of the CPC, Matías Verdugo, President of Acción Empresas and Hans Eben, President of Global Compact Chile, says: "The international guidelines and instruments on matters of responsible business conduct focus on companies developing a preventive approach, which ensures respect for people and the environment. The preventive approach that we present in a simple and practical way in this guide becomes, then, a call to all companies, regardless of their size or economic sector, to develop knowledge and take their first steps in this matter "
