Harare, November 29, 2017 – WBCSD’s Global Network partner in Zimbabwe, BCSDZ, recently held its annual conference in Harare, focused on the theme “Towards a Green Economy in Zimbabwe: Harnessing Sustainable Development Goals for Low Carbon and Resource Efficient Industrial Development”.
BCSDZ enjoyed a busy year in 2017, hosting the Climate Finance Conference, delivering the Green Industry and Cleantech Innovation programs and presenting workshops on green purchasing, renewable energy, sustainability reporting and green chemistry.
At the annual conference, new BCSDZ Chairman Charles Msipa encouraged members to upscale their activities to drive forward ecological sustainability, social equity and business profitability. Thematic presentations during the event focused on the green economy, fire management and CSR, with case studies from Zimbabwean companies.
In his address, Peter Bakker welcomed the incoming secretariat led by Mr. Msipa and Executive Director Tawanda Collins Muzamwese, while congratulating the outgoing team on the progress of BCSDZ and corporate sustainability in Zimbabwe under their leadership:
“BCSDZ is leading the way for sustainable engagement in Zimbabwe. The events, workshops and meetings it has held over the past twelve months provide a unique collaborative space for business and a platform from which to engage with government and other key stakeholders. By working together, we can rally for change in a much bigger way. I urge business to engage with BCSDZ and WBCSD to scale up their sustainability initiatives.”
