Beijing, 17 December 2020: More than 20 senior executives and representatives from member companies and partners, including Sinopec, DSM, State Grid, BP China, Veolia, China Baowu, Shell, CIMC, Dow Chemical, Yanshan Petrochemical, Evonik, Yili Group, BMW Brilliance, and ABB China, gathered for the annual delegate meeting of the China Business Council for Sustainable Development (CBCSD).
The session, chaired by CBCSD Deputy Secretary-General Qi Qi, shared information on the Council’s work in 2020 and reviewed activities and outcomes planned for the year ahead.
Participants engaged with keynote speaker Mr. Dai Yande, Former Director of the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, who zoomed in on the theme of carbon-neutral energy transition. He laid out the importance of carbon-based and meso-to-carbon goals for China's construction of a modern power system, analyzing and introducing in detail the current situation of China's energy consumption and medium- and long-term development needs, as well as the goals and development strategies of energy transformation. “Promoting carbon-to-carbon in 2060 requires goal leadership, innovation-driven, and policy assurance", he affirmed.
For her part, Ms. Zhang Jing, Deputy Director of the CBCSD Secretariat, highlighted the key deliverables of the Council’s work for 2020. With the strong support of all directors and member companies, the Council successfully completed the established work plan in 2020, which included an online conference on the top ten trends in sustainable development of Chinese enterprises as well as engagement around the "Belt and Road" Green Development International Alliance.
