Hanoi, 6 July 2018: Vietnam BCSD (VBCSD) successfully co-organized alongside the World Bank the National Conference on Sustainable Development 2018, held yesterday in Hanoi. Themed “Enhancing Competitiveness, Realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) amidst Industrial Revolution 4.0”, the Conference was chaired by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc. The over 700 attendees included leaders and representatives from the Party, Government, Ministries, UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, over 60 distinguished guests from international organizations in Vietnam, over 30 representatives from diplomatic corps, over 30 representatives from provincial/ municipal authorities.
Sessions were framed around the leveraging of public-private partnerships towards realizing the SDGs, particularly around the following topics: Circular economy; the future of work; sustainability reporting; and harnessing innovation for productivity and competitiveness.
The plenary session was opened by a speech of Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam alongside presentations by leaders of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the World Bank, the Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Heineken, Coca-Cola, Ericsson, and TBS Group.
Based on the Conference’s outcomes, Vietnam’s Prime Minister has required the Ministry of Planning and Investment to lead and collaborate with VCCI and relevant ministries and agencies to develop a Directive on Sustainable Development, to be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval and issuance in the third quarter of 2018.
