About

BCSD Türkiye was established in 2004 to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable future in Türkiye.  

BCSD Türkiye comprises 132 members from 33 different sectors, which account for 20% of Türkiye’s GNP and employ 1,000,000 people. It creates a network to conduct sustainability projects, learn from others and interact with partners. 

SDGs create the strategical framework for BCSD Türkiye's work. With five thematic priorities, BCSD develops programs and projects to achieve the SDGs in Türkiye.  

Priorities

BCSD Türkiye aims to be a pioneer of "green transformation" by enabling its members to achieve net zero emissions, be nature positive and reduce inequalities.  

The thematic priorities and key projects are as follows:   

1) Transition to a Low Carbon Economy and Energy Efficiency:    

  • The Net Zero Carbon Movement to achieve net-zero emissions before 2053.  

2) Sustainable Agriculture and Access to Food:    

  • The Sustainable Agriculture Principles project has been addressing the environmental, social and economic dimensions of agriculture since 2015.  

3) Sustainable Industry and Circular Economy:    

  • Türkiye Circular Economy Platform and Materials Marketplace Project aims to facilitate circular transition in Türkiye through certified trainings and cross-industry reuse of materials by companies since 2016.  

  • BCSD Türkiye is also a consortium member of an EU project to design Türkiye's circular economy roadmap for the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.   

  • The Business Plastics Initiative (IPG) is Türkiye’s first and only plastics initiative, implemented in cooperation with Global Compact Türkiye and TÜSİAD, aiming to achieve measurable results to combat plastic pollution since 2019.  

4) Social Inclusion:   

  • The Digital Platform Eşit Adımlar (Equal Steps) guides companies towards increasing women's employment since 2015.  

5) Sustainable Finance and Risk Management:   

  • Since 2013 Sustainable Finance Forum is organized annually. 

  • Since 2017 the Reporting Matters project helps companies to improve the quality of sustainability reporting.  

  • Since 2022 COSO methodology is used for integrating ESG risks into ERM risks.
