WBCSD’s Forest Solutions Group (FSG) is the global platform for the forest sector value chain. Building and sharing business solutions to lead sustainable development in the forest products sector.
FSG’s mission is to advance the bio-economy and a thriving forest sector that sustains healthy productive forests & people's well-being.
A USD $44.3 billion corporation, the Aditya Birla Group (ABG) is in the League of Fortune 500 and anchored by a workforce of over 120,000 employees belonging to 42 nationalities. Globally, ABG is the leading viscose staple fiber producer. Birla Cellulose, the Group’s pulp and fiber business, is committed to applying the best-accepted practices at their manufacturing sites to minimize the impact of their operations on the environment. Furthermore, the business has developed strong forest-based operations that feed the growing sustainable fashion industry through specialized dissolving pulp operations in Canada, India and Sweden, and viscose and rayon mills in China, India, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand.
ABG has been a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) for over five years, where they have played a primary role in various WBCSD projects, including cement and water. Birla Cellulose has now taken the leadership step of joining WBCSD’s Forest Solutions Group.
ABG shares WBCSD’s vision of creating a world where over nine billion people are living well and within the boundaries of our planet by 2050. This also means that business cannot succeed in a world that fails: a business that can reduce its impact on the externalities and adapt to external factors driven by global megatrends will inevitably be more successful.
“We have worked hard to meet the internationally- recognized standards, and are building a sustainable pulp and fiber industry that will inevitably require a step change in the levels of transparency, traceability and new recycling technologies. I believe that it will be a positive step forward to join the WBCSD’s Forest Solutions Group,” said Mr. Dilip Gaur, Managing Director of Grasim Industries Limited and Head - Global Pulp and Fiber Business, Aditya Birla Group. By connecting with WBCSD’s Forest Solutions Group composed of forward-thinking businesses across the forest sector, ABG can make a real impact on global corporate sustainability, forest-based industries and the fashion industry.
Luis Rochartre, WBCSD’s Forest Solutions Group (FSG) Director said, “We recognize ABG’s leadership position in pulp and fiber and look forward to working with them more closely. ABG’s knowledge will be beneficial to other members of the FSG who operate in other forest-related industries. The activities of FSG members, and how they are leading their industries, will also be helpful to ABG to translate its leadership into sustained success for the forest sector.”
