Geneva, 11 October 2022: Croda creates, makes and sells specialty chemicals and ingredients relied on by industries and consumers around the world, employing over 5,500 employees globally. Last year, Croda’s science-based targets to reduce carbon emissions in line with the 1.5°C scenario were fully verified, and the company was recognized as Business of the Year at the World Sustainability Awards.
As it joins WBCSD, Croda also announces its aspiration to become Net Nature Positive by 2030. In addition to its existing Climate, Land and People Positive sustainability Commitment, the company will work to achieve a net nature-positive future, one in which natural capital is protected and restored, supporting the essential health, wellbeing and prosperity of all. Croda’s Net Nature Positive ambition will be achieved through an increased focus on preserving and restoring natural ecosystems in its supply chains, minimizing the water impact of its operations and helping accelerate sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
Croda’s ambition to be the most sustainable supplier of innovative ingredients and become Climate, Land, People Positive by 2030 is well aligned with WBCSD’s Vision 2050: Time to Transform – a vision of a world where by 2050, more than nine billion people can live well, within planetary boundaries.
Steve Foots, Group Chief Executive, Croda said: “We are delighted to be joining WBCSD. Sharing knowledge and working together to deliver greater positive impact is crucial to accelerating the system transformations needed for a net zero, nature positive and more equitable future. In parallel, we are committing to a Net Nature Positive future which is essential to the future health, wellbeing and prosperity of us all.
“At Croda, our sustainability commitments, announced over two years ago, are central to our strategy, and we are proud to be delivering unique solutions to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals and those of wider society. Through the global influence of WBCSD, we can maximize the impact of our actions across industries and build on the work of other leading organizations.”
By joining WBCSD, Croda will benefit from a global network of almost 70 national business councils and collaboration with other purpose-led CEOs, giving it unparalleled networking reach globally.
WBCSD President and CEO Peter Bakker said, “Croda is an award-winning company in the field of sustainability and a significant addition to our membership. Through their involvement with WBCSD, they will contribute to advancing nature-based solutions and drive collective business action on water. By combining a smart science approach to sustainability, Croda will be key to transforming systems and achieving a world in which more than 9 billion people live well, within planetary boundaries.”
