Beijing, 3 December 2019: At the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), we bring together nearly 200 of the world’s most forward-thinking businesses, working together to accelerate the transition to a sustainable world, to target the realization of the SDGs through systems transformation via six programs of work: Circular Economy, Cities & Mobility, Climate & Energy, Food & Nature, People and Redefining Value.
To develop the business solutions that will drive key systems transformation and the achievement of the SDGs, we are strengthening our impact and capability in China and have nominated Mr Wei Dong Zhou as the new Director of WBCSD’s China office.
Wei Dong Zhou has more than 20 years of experience working across the Chinese government and in the not-for-profit sector, as well as in state-owned and multinational companies.
Prior to joining WBCSD, Mr Zhou was the former Executive Secretary-General of the Alliance of Green Consumption and Green Supply Chain (GCSG) in China, and previously established the offices of TSC China. From 2005-2012, he worked as the China Country Director for Business for Social Responsibility (BSR). Between 1989-1999, Mr. Zhou held positions with the Weihai City Government and the High-Tech Development Zone Management Committee in Shandong Province. Mr Zhou graduated from the Qingdao University of Science & Technology with a bachelor’s degree in Machinery Engineering. He later obtained his master’s degree in Asian Business Studies from the University of London (SOAS) in the UK.
In his new role with WBCSD, Mr Zhou will be an active node of the global WBCSD organization by providing regional input, guidance and ensure relevance in the Chinese context. He will also represent WBCSD at national events and external stakeholder engagement opportunities. Mr Zhou will work together with WBCSD’s teams, Chinese members and networks in their contribution to WBCSD’s Vision of a world where 9+ billion live well within planetary boundaries and its Mission of making more sustainable businesses more successful.
