The G20 Framework on Inclusive Business agreed upon during the Turkish Presidency in 2015, established a common understanding of inclusive business approaches and identified how different actors can support the development of inclusive business. The initiative to set up the G20 Global Platform on Inclusive Business (GPIB) in 2016 went one step further by compiling knowledge and facilitating exchange and collaboration between policymakers based on evidence. The GPIB focuses on policymaking in the areas of finance, capacity building, information, and rules and regulation.
Under the German G20 Presidency, a one-day conference on 5 May 2017 in Berlin will continue the ongoing work around the role of governments in proactively promoting inclusive business policies by engaging the private sector to accelerate the pace of addressing poverty, while creating opportunities to address social and environmental challenges and in the process aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The aim of the conference is to build upon the G20 Inclusive Business Framework and previous workshops that were held during the G20 Turkish and Chinese Presidencies and continue to advance inclusive business policies through ongoing peer-to-peer learning and knowledge exchange by establishing new alliances with concrete action plans and agree on follow-up support.
In Berlin, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) will be represented by Filippo Veglio, Managing Director, Social Capital. He will participate in a panel discussion focused on
how inclusive business solutions can deliver both business and societal value, in full alignment with the SDGs, and share WBCSD’s perspectives in line with a recent issue brief published on this topic.
The conference is organized by the Inclusive Business Action Network (IBAN) alongside the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and International Finance Corporation (IFC).
