Since 2017, ACCIONA has provided energy services for 400 municipal buildings of the Madrid Town Hall through the creation of a Municipal Energy Management System, the first of this scale undertaken in Spain. It allows for real-time monitoring and analysis of energy consumption to correct inefficiencies and detect opportunities, thereby saving costs and reducing CO2 emissions. Thanks to ACCIONA's Digital Energy Services Control Centre, information is analyzed, and any abnormal energy consumption is responded to immediately, thus improving operational performance and detecting inefficient consumption patterns.
The system facilitates real-time energy monitoring, demand management, analysis, and reporting as well as energy audits and diagnostics to identify improvement areas. Since the first service was started, ACCIONA now manages the energy services of 65 buildings from the Control Centre, including the Cibeles Palace, the headquarters of the Treasury and Public Administration, the Conde Duque Cultural Center and numerous city sports centers.
Managing large amounts of data in real-time requires specific technology. For that purpose, it was decided that data be centralized and processed in ACCIONA's Building Control Center. Based on the treatment of the data collected, for which ACCIONA uses Big Data techniques, concrete saving and efficiency measures are proposed, such as the replacement of obsolete and inefficient equipment or the incorporation of control and automation devices, among many other actions.
This energy provider agreement between ACCIONA and the Madrid City Council does not only result in significant energy savings, that is, in a reduction in public spending and CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. It also contributes to reinforcing the environmental awareness of the new generations, essential to guarantee a sustainable future.
