The Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) is an international, multi-stakeholder, voluntary membership organization, with the mission to lead improvements in the socio-economic and environmental performance of the natural rubber value chain. Its development was initiated in November 2017 by the CEOs of the member companies of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) Tire Industry Project (TIP) and officially launched in October 2018.
The GPSNR is based in Singapore and has been hosted by the Business Council for Sustainable Development Singapore Ltd (BCSD Singapore Ltd.) since October 2018. BCSD Singapore Ltd. is a WBCSD Global Network partner; it has operated as an independent non-profit organization since 2013.
In January 2019, WBCSD Asia Pacific Ltd. was established as a non-profit legal entity in Singapore. WBCSD Asia Pacific Ltd. is an affiliate of WBCSD, its purpose is to support WBCSD members and projects in the region. With an affiliate in Singapore, WBCSD is in a better position to understand regional and national specificities, business priorities and practices, political and regulatory landscapes, and learn from the cultural diversity and perspectives of local communities.
In October 2019 the GPSNR Executive Committee agreed to transition GPSNR hosting from BCSD Singapore Ltd. to WBCSD Asia Pacific Ltd.
As of 1 December 2019, the GPSNR will be hosted by WBCSD Asia Pacific Ltd.
This transition will not result in any changes to the organizational or governance structures of the platform but will enable the platform to leverage synergies and explore means of collaboration within the wider WBCSD programs of work, including initiatives of the Food & Nature Program.
As agreed by the GPSNR’s Executive Committee, the GPSNR will be hosted by WBCSD Asia Pacific Ltd. until GPSNR and WBCSD Asia Pacific Ltd. agree to select a new host, or GPSNR’s General Assembly chooses to incorporate the Platform as a separate, independent legal entity.
