Following its publication in 2018, adoption of the WBCSD PSA Methodology by the Chemical Industry has continued to rise. Experienced PSA practitioners attest to the methodology’s ability to help inform better decision-making by strengthening customer and stakeholder comprehension of product sustainability performance leading to greater innovation, reduced risk, and ultimately more sustainable portfolios.
That said for companies less familiar with the PSA Methodology, getting started can be a challenge. Despite its many values the PSA Methodology does require time and resources to implement. In order to assist companies to overcome these hurdles WBCSD has established the Chemical Industry Methodology for Portfolio Sustainability Assessment (PSA) Platform which is made up of forward-thinking Chemical Companies (at different stages of PSA adoption) and strategic industry partners, collaborating in a precompetitive space to provide additional guidance, tools and knowledge sharing.

Translating the PSA Methodology into action can be a daunting task, even more so for companies that need to create a clear value proposition for internal stakeholders and decision makers. In order to better illustrate the PSA Methodology in practice the Chemical Industry Methodology for Portfolio Sustainability Assessment (PSA) Platform has developed the WBCSD PSA - Digitalization tool to start.
This guidance (excel format) will assist companies through a step-by-step process to apply the PSA methodology across a limited selection of its portfolio to demonstrate the assessment criteria and showcase its value.
